Today was my birthday and I turned 10. I have been part of Carol and John's family for 8 whole years. Wow where did that time go.

I still love living in Florida and I spent my days going inside and outside. I have made many other doggy friends here although I really prefer humans to other doggos.

One of my favorite friends is OSCAR alum Finn. He spends winters down here and we love when we are treated to a boat ride.

She does not have a favorite toy, seeking out each one when she wants it from her toy basket. She will search the house if it was out and cannot find it with the other toys. While Ellie loves all of her doggy treats, she gets really excited when Chewy delivers her sweet potato steak fries, but would never say no to one of the pumpkin ones either."

"Hello - It's been a VERY long time, but I just have to share some "happy tails".

We adopted this beautiful, amazing, sweet, wonderful beagle/springer spaniel mix from OSCAR nearly ten years ago. She has been and continues to be a gem, and I cannot let another day go by without sharing our story and a few of her pictures with you. I have hundreds and hundreds of pictures I could share, but I chose just a few. The one with my three children is from 8-9 years ago and my children are now 19, 17, and 11.

When we first adopted Brittany my boys chose to keep her name because they did not want her to have to get used to another name, as she was approx. 1-2 years old. We had a Great Dane before Brittany, so I knew the importance of training, using positive reinforcement to nurture and grow a happy and well behaved dog. So she was not the easiest dog at first, but...

What a joy she has been for my family. She has shared special moments, holidays, vacations, day trips, long walks, hikes, etc. with us. She has the best, most easy going, and gentle nature and personality I've ever experienced in a dog. She has been a gift for my children as they've grown, and for me, as simply petting her can ease some of my most anxious or stressful thoughts and circumstances. Her unconditional love has been a blessing.

Fast forward to now, and we are still enjoying every minute with her, and the love continues to grow even though I never though I could love her more than I have. She is an older girl now, approximately 11-12 years young. She is still the best girl, still sweet and loving, gets along with all people and animals - and not just "gets along" - she's so affectionate, outgoing, and good natured. She's still going strong and very healthy. She checked out in perfect health at her annual checkup on June 1st.

She has been and continues to be a blessing. I want to share this with you because it is a very "happy tail" that's been going on a long time and still going strong. THANK YOU for the important work you do, THANK YOU for helping the innocent and helpless, and THANK YOU for Brittany. We love her so dearly, and she is a gem and she is our perfect and beloved dog. THANK YOU!"

Things are going very well and Dillon is doing great. He is very attached to all of us and is now very comfortable here. We walk in the early morning and after it cools down at night. He is definitely improving on the leash and most of the time walking nicely without pulling. During the day he stays next to me while I work. We play on and off throughout the day. He really enjoys our games. He sits and waits nicely before getting the ok to eat or to go outside. He is a very fast learner. We all think he is an excellent dog and are loving having him around.

"Hi OSCAR-

Wanted to give you a quick update on Java, with some pics.

So, three days in and it's as if she has always been part of our family. A few things about her:

We've named her Pepper - she answers to it already She is VERY smart
We think she must have had some training before
She sits, lies down, gives both paws, and answers with a play bark when we ask, "What's your name?"
She is a GREAT watchdog. She is sweet and playful with us, and has an adorable raspy play bark she uses when we are having fun. But, as soon as she sees the need to protect us or ward off danger, her deep bark comes out. It makes her seem twice as big!
She perches on the couch where she can look out the window and survey all she owns
She LOVES car rides
We are leash training, and she's SO much better than day one. We're almost there!

In short, she's loved, happy, curious, smart, fun, and a better addition to our family than we could ever imagine!

"Hi, Just wanted to give you an update on Sam. It's only been 2 weeks, but he has really settled nicely. He follows me everywhere and is so sweet and gentle. We love that he gets so excited when we call him a good boy. Our cat was a bit alarmed at first, but is now taking to rubbing up against him (and sometimes stealing his bed and kibble).

We think Sam misses his dog friends because he'll cry when we pass another dog on our walks. So we've taken him to the dog park a couple of times and he has a blast running around with the other dogs. The vet described his behavior on his paperwork as "love bug" and we couldn't agree more.

So, we go into the 'safe room' (air conditioner on with tv so he can't hear them) and he's better!!! Our daughter bought the fur kids a Furbo for Christmas and the 'treat machine' is the best thing since Frosty Paws!!!

Working from home through Covid has brought us so much closer. He is truly an amazing love in our family and we are completely smitten with him!!!

I hope all is well with you guys. I wanted to give you an update on how Hoboken (we are calling him Bo for short) is doing. He is a very happy and energetic puppy, and one of the best listening hounds that I have ever had! I am so thankful to be given the opportunity to be his Dog Mom!

Bo loves to take long walks in the morning and night down the wooded streets where I live. He loves to stop when we pass creeks and look at them, he also goes crazy every time he sees a deer, squirrel or birds! He is fascinated with the television and has a violent rivalry with any and all vacuums. He is so strong that sometimes he attacks the vacuum so much that he pulls the entire thing out of my hands!

We are working on teaching him good manners. Overall, he is a very quick learner. He has learned to sit and we are working on giving his paw next.

This three year old beagle mix lost his owner and was left in a house with three other beagles for around six months until transport could be worked out. O.S.C.A.R. or One Step Closer Animal Rescue, out of Sparta, NewJersey, facilitated the transition and did everything in their power to help out this little guy. He is an intelligent and quirky individual who loves to "Army Crawl' across surfaces inside and out. Giving him a bath on the first day and physically feeling his ribs and realizing how severely malnourished he was became an overwhelming experience. Luckily, this loyal guy has adapted well to his new surroundings and/or his "Forever Home". Hermes is intrigued by the new member of "Pack Chen!" Wish us luck!"

My wife and I wanted to share an update on Fribble, formerly Ellie, who we adopted 9/9/19. She has gained about 8 lbs since coming home with us and the vet is really happy with her health. She's also quite the acrobat, jumping and tumbling around other dogs at the dog park. People comment on these things all the time and she makes friends wherever she goes.

Fribble's life here is happy and full. We go for walks a few times a day and hike a few times a week. She has a crate but normally sleeps in bed with us, often curled in a ball between our legs. She gets along with everyone and our landlords love her. She is quite fond of our two cats, Oliie and Hitchcock. She and Hitch like to play and have grown to be really good buddies, following each other around the house. I have high hopes that they will be snuggling in a pile by next winter.

Though the pandemic has definitely changed our lifestyle temporarily, Fribble has been able to keep up with our adventures. We take her everywhere we go. Frib has traveled with us to Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire. She rolls with change easily, which is perfect for us. Once life returns to some kind of normal, Fribble will continue adding to her list of visited states - we're thinking Maine is next.

I've attached some pictures here (she's quite photogenic). I can't tell you how loved this dog is - my wife and I are so thankful to have her in our life. We just made a donation in Fribble's name and will keep you folks in mind for future donations. Thanks to all you wonderful people at OSCAR for everything that you do!

"Hello OSCAR! In April of 2019, we adopted Torrey to be the little sister to our other dog, O'Neil, and wanted to give you an update of our lovely little girl.

In the year + since she joined our family, she has blossomed into a mostly obedient girl (only an occasional habit of chewing things she's not supposed to), who shows her love with jumps & spins, leaping and bounding, running into you at full speed (ouch!), deep body leans, and flipping her head backwards to see you when she sits next to you (as opposed to turning her head like most other dogs). She's a total teddy bear (earning the nickname 'Torrey Bear') and basically isn't phased by much of anything. Grooming, baths, nail clipping, vacuums...no problem! She also has the biggest blue eyes I've ever seen (we call them her 'moonbeams').

She makes tons of friends at the dog park & loves to be chased! She's super fast, so it's rare any of the other dogs catch her. She also won over O'Neil and every once in a while I catch them snuggling or giving each other puppy kisses.

I was skeptical about getting her at first, but I'm so glad she joined our little family. She provides so much love & so many laughs. We love her so much!!! We've included some photos from the past year for your enjoyment."

Xena's Obituary (excerpt)

Xena died peacefully, due to ongoing complications from liver failure, on Tuesday, 4/21/2020. Her mom & dad were by her side, petting & loving her until her last breath. While only living 10 & half years,-ish, Xena lived an extremely full life. Adventure, fun, travel, joy, treats, & endless love surrounded her for all of her years.

Xena was born on approximately 11/4/09 in the rural south. Due to 'Safe Harbor' laws she & two littermates were dumped at a North Carolina shelter. Thankfully, she would become a proud 'Yank' & was saved by an animal rescue organization in the 'great state' of New Jersey.

In her lifetime, she hiked countless mountains & peaks, admiring vistas that few get to see. Xena visited at least 15 ski resorts across the USA. This, in addition to the countless number of backcountry ski trips. Xena, as her warrior name suggests, was a protector. She was both incredibly kind & sweet, but also had an intimidating bark & demeanor, especially given her compact little body. Her family never had any doubt that she would sacrifice herself if her people were ever actually in jeopardy. Thankfully, she never had to hurt a fly. Her name was fitting as she was incredibly tough. Xena loved nothing more than to roll around & dance in the grass. She was the perfect mix of everything great in this world, unconditional love, forgiveness, compassion, patience, joy, gratitude, companionship, empathy & humor.

"Hello! I just wanted to give you an update on Tucker from the rock and roll pups. He's now known as Jack, short for Jackson Browne. As we were driving home from the shelter and trying to decide on a name, a Jackson Browne song came on the radio. We decided it was a sign from our previous dog, Murphy, who we used to joke was Murphy Brown. Jack keeps the rock and roll inspired name going while acknowledging our beloved first dog. Our sons said Murphy would help us find the perfect dog for our family when the time was right. And he picked a winner!

Jack has brought so much joy into our lives. He is such a loveable and playful pup and such a fast learner! He loves playing in the backyard and lounging in the sun. His favorite toy is still that orange pumpkin you sent with him and he still sleeps every night with the blanket you gave us. He loves going for walks around the neighborhood and is so eager to meet people. I can't until things return to normal and he can interact with more people instead of just our immediate family.

We are volunteers at the shelter, and decided to try to foster her back in December, but we very quickly realized that we didn't want her to go anywhere once she was with us. (So we adopted her!) She is the sweetest dog ever and has made herself very comfy in her new home. We love to go on adventures in the woods, go on long walks daily, and get plenty of snuggles in too. She makes us laugh every day with her funny ways - she won't chew on her rawhides - instead she takes them and hides them all over the house, she gets so excited about dinner that she does a little waggly happy dance waiting for it to be put down for her, and she is most comfortable sleeping on her back and usually right on top of us. "OSCAR,

I wanted to take a minute and pass along an update on our two perfect rescue lab mixes! With everything going on right now, I thought everyone could use a little bit of good news.

My husband adopted Brody (formerly Blaze) in December, 2014, when he was 8 months old. Brody just celebrated his 6th birthday last month! He is the happiest boy! Brody loves sleeping in the sun and rolling around in the snow. If he could, he would spend all day outside in the yard. He was very happy when we moved into our new house, specifically with a big yard for him. Brody only wants to come inside for a midday nap by a window in the sun, for meal times and for late evening couch cuddles with his humans. He also loves a good bone or homemade peanut butter pumpkin dog biscuits (he has his mom well trained).

We adopted Teddy Bear (formerly Yeti) in June, 2019. Teddy has adjusted well to being a spoiled house dog and loves meeting new people! He quickly learned all about dog toys, biscuits, belly rubs and snuggles. Teddy clearly had never had room to run before- he has created a racetrack around the perimeter of the backyard and will chase after tennis balls endlessly. But when he is done running around and following Brody, he comes right back inside to seek out a human to give him affection while he chews on a squeaky toy. He always has a toy in his mouth and carries them from room to room. Teddy has come such a long way in the 9 months we have had him, he is like a different dog!

The boys became fast friends! Teddy is in awe of his older brother Brody, and clearly thinks that he is the coolest dog ever! And Brody is happy to have a little brother, even if Teddy does annoy him sometimes. We are so grateful for OSCAR for giving us our two dogs, who complete our little family! And they even have an OSCAR cousin, Penny (formerly Poppy) who they love to hang out with when the whole family gets together!

Thank you for giving us a wonderful little boy! When we first adopted Dobby, he was very skinny and skittish. But after a lot of meals and a lot of love, he has turned into an healthy, playful, oversized lap dog!

Currently, he loves tennis balls (we bought him a pack of 18, and he chases all of them under the couch!) and running laps around our backyard several times a day. When he is not exercising, he loves to cuddle and lay close to us at all times no matter what we are doing.

Our older dog that we adopted from your rescue as well has been getting along well with him. They are big sister and younger brother; sometimes he annoys her, but most of the time they love to play and lay next to one another. Even our cat likes to play with Dobby from time to time! Thank you so much for all the work that you do!

I know it's been a long time and I wanted to reach out to give you an update and thank you again.

We hit the jackpot with this dog! She is calm, sweet and rarely barks, gets along great with people and dogs - a dream! Things were tough in the beginning, but we knew that time was on our side and she just needed time to adjust to her new routine. It took about 6 months and then we couldn't believe what an awesome dog she turned out to be. She is our constant companion: every day, she goes to work at the church with my husband, loves to greet all the people, and provides a calming presence for everyone around her! She's also my adventure pal: I take her everywhere, from picking up the kids, to exploring trails on weekends. Although she's a phenomenal athlete, she's pretty lazy on the trails - she only picks up her energy when we're headed back to the car. She has become an honorary mascot of my son's cross country team: she goes to meets and loves to hang out with the kids while they wait for their races. She's a rock star wherever she goes, everyone wants to pet her and she's such a mellow, friendly dog. She isn't perfect (still haven't figured out a way to clip her nails), but neither are we! I wasn't looking for a dog when she came along.... but I knew she had a great temperament and am so glad she came into our lives! Thank you again!

"We just wanted to thank you so much for bringing Ziggy into our lives! When we adopted Ziggy three months ago, he had no fur because he had been shaved because of a flea infestation. Honestly, he was a motley little guy. We felt sorry for him because he was a senior dog that had been found running along a highway. She gets along great with Nemo. She is completely housebroken and when you tell her she’s a good girl, she rolls over to get her belly rubs She loves toys, but not too interested in playing ball. She’s a little nervous in the car, but when she snuggles with Nemo, she’s fine. Pumpkin loves walks, and loves to chase squirrels. Shoes are a favorite too. Lol.

We took her to my vet yesterday to get acquainted with them. She just laid on the table and was so good when she got checked. On September 1, Pumpkin and Nemo go to Pet Smart for their spa day. We stopped in so my groomer could meet Pumpkin. Everyone just fell in love with her. Thank you Debbie for choosing our family for Cheerios aka Pumpkin. Two years ago we adopted Spanky from your shelter. Spanky is one of Luna’s babies. I am attaching some recent photos. We love him so much and we can not imagine our lives without him.

I am writing to you because my son’s bar mitzvah is coming up. (I’m also sending you a photo of my children the day that you introduced us to Spanky). My son is the reason that we began our search to find a rescue of our own. He begged and begged for a dog. He was only willing to get a rescue. So many of his friends’ families got dogs from breeders and even pet stores and at the youngest age he knew that a rescue was the only answer.

For our son’s bar mitzvah he is required to do some type of service protect. He came up with the idea of doing something to give back to you. We are so appreciate of the work that you do. I believe he is too young to work directly with the animals- he is not quite 13. However, he would like to do some type of collection and then we could bring it to you one weekend or evening. Is there anything in particular that you need? He is a Boy Scout so we can count on getting lots of donations. Thank you so much!

"Hello OSCAR,

We have been really busy the past few weeks. We decided to put an offer on a home with a bigger yard and have been running around getting our home ready to sell. Barney continues to be a perfect dog! Yesterday was one month since we adopted him. Barney has been such a great guy that my husband and I have said a bunch of times that there hasn’t been an adjustment at all because he fits in so well. He is great with the whole family and he really loves his sister. I’m happy that you like their walking picture. They are both so true to their respective breeds when they walk. Milly is all business and Barney is pretty focused on the walk, but he can’t help himself and jumps up every now and then to give her a kiss on the nose. I included a couple more pictures. Even though Barney has a nice bed, he prefers the wooden base of a table or laying on his sister. We haven’t even crated him since we are home most of the time. If he is left loose while we go to the grocery store, he doesn’t do anything but play with his sister and wait for us to return. He is also pretty crafty with his toys and keeps plush toys in one area of the house and Nylabones in another. I threw all the toys together in their toy bin and by the next morning he separated them again. Thank you again for everything and we also wanted to give a big thank you to the kennel staff who cared for Barney. He is so loving and sweet and we know that has a lot to do with how well he was cared for at OSCAR in being comfortable in a new home. We will definitely put up a great review on google soon. Everyone was wonderful during his adoption and he is just perfect. Thank you again for Barney, we absolutely love him! "

"Hello OSCAR,

I am sending you an early update to let you know how your friend Barney is doing. He is pretty amazing. We are all thrilled with him and he has made himself really comfortable already. It�s been only a day, but it feels like we�ve been lucky enough to always have had him. Like with any new baby, we have a million pictures and are including some here. Barney walks well around town with his sister. She was really focused on him when she met him, but at home he wants to be either right next to her or coaxing her to play. He bites her feet to encourage her to play and she lasts about a second until she gives in. They were up all night playing even with the rest of the family asleep they played until morning. He also loves toys and he did great for his bath which was a good idea since he loves to snuggle. Thank you so much for everything and letting us adopt him! We promise to love him and the whole family is already crazy about him. I will keep you updated on Barney and we are all so happy that he is a part of our family. Thank You again!"

"Hi. It�s been a very good 3 days since we adopted Reggie. He loves to please & is learning very quickly. He starting to understand commands sit, down, wait. He seem to be intelligent.

"Hi, Just wanted to let you know how Sky is doing in his new home. At first he was afraid of the pet door. After 2 days he was running in and out with Elle. He loves to play with her and is walking well on leash. He has chewed some random items: a book, candle and bath poof but nothing of value. We have since baby proofed the house and yard. He also has access to lots of toys. He loves to lay on the couch or dog bed when watching tv or on lawn chairs outside. We are planning a camping trip for the summer in our trailer. "Hi Oscar:

It is another year that has passed and this former run away who had no manners is turning into the perfect dog!!! He required a lot of patience and a ton of love which he absorbed and continues to return to us in abundance.

Riley just turned 6 years old this past January and does not try to run away anymore. I guess life is good at home. Lol.

Riley enjoys rides in the car and LOVES to go to the county recycling center on Saturday mornings to say hi to everyone he meets to get his weekly treats from anyone willing to give him any. He particularly enjoys spending days at the Pet Spa for daycare and greeting other guests at the dog park.

Swimming in the bay down the shore and meeting others is something Riley enjoys doing as well as keeping an eye in his little sister Gemma.

I have enclosed pictures of him from June of last year to current. He is the love of our lives and we couldn�t imagine life without him. He is turning into one of the best dogs we could ever hope to have. He was brought to a shelter 5 years ago by another family and their loss is most definitely our gain. His golden personality shines through in his amazing disposition!!

Dean is an around one year old border collie and retriever mix. He has settled in so well and so quickly into our Hoboken apartment. He has so much love to give and is quick at getting up on the couch or bed with you for a snuggle. Sometimes forgetting he�s a 50lb adult he�s still a puppy at heart. He loves the waterfront and likes nothing better than playing with all the other Hoboken dogs at the dog park.
